How to Choose the Right Bathroom Vanity

May 31, 2017

A bathroom vanity is more than just a mirror, a sink, and some shelving. A bathroom vanity is an important piece of the puzzle in any bathroom remodeling project. It needs to be both functional and beautiful. It acts as a hub for storage and needs to be large enough to host your morning and nightly routines. So, don’t take this decision lightly! Small details can have a huge impact on your daily life. If you choose the right bathroom vanity for your bathroom, you’ll enjoy more space and better functionality, which will definitely make getting ready for work in the morning a little easier.

The bathroom vanity you choose can be determined by a number of factors including how many people will be using the bathroom, what style your bathroom is, and how much storage you need. It can be hard to decide in the heat of the moment. You may feel pressure from other members of your household to go with a different style, or you may make a spur-of-the-moment decision to go with a trendy vanity that you won’t end up being happy with.

To help you make the best decision, we’ve put together a list of questions you should answer before deciding on a bathroom vanity.

How much room do you need?

If your bathroom is small, you’ll definitely be looking at different vanities than if you have a big, spacious room to work with. For small bathrooms, try looking at petite vanities, or even a corner bathroom vanity. A corner vanity opens up a lot of floor space to make your bathroom appear bigger, and can still include all of the storage you need.

If you have a large bathroom, or if you’re not concerned about space, this really opens up your options! But, be sure to use your space wisely. Choosing the wrong size bathroom vanity can disrupt the flow of your bathroom. Be sure to keep in mind the layout of your overall bathroom when choosing your vanity style.

Do you need more than one sink?

How many people will be using your bathroom? This is an important question to consider, as well as the bathroom routines of those sharing the room. If your bathroom is a private bathroom off of your master bedroom, it may be smart to invest in “His and Hers” sinks. This way, you and your partner can get ready in the morning together, without hesitation or interruption.

Conversely, if your bathroom is for a guest room or is a half-bath, you’ll want to stick with one sink. It’ll save room and save you some time on cleaning and maintenance. Or, if your bathroom is for the entire household, one sink may do the trick. This way, you can save counter space for tooth brushes, soap, and all of the other things that a family needs in the bathroom.

Is counterspace important to you?

Do you have a lot of bathroom gadgets or supplies? Do you need more room to set your makeup out, or to fix your hair in the morning? Take some time to realistically assess your need for space in the bathroom. There is nothing worse than not having enough counter space to get ready in the morning. And remember, when it comes to counter space, it never hurts to overestimate!

How much shelving will you need?

What is the best thing about a bathroom vanity? The shelving! Under-sink shelving is crucial to storing all of the odds and ends that we need the make a bathroom functional and clean. How much shelving do you need?

If you have children, or an abundance of bathroom appliances, then it’s smart to think big. The more shelving, the better, in our opinion. More shelves mean more room to store bath-time supplies, hair dryers, cleaning supplies, and more.
